Healthy Homemade Hot Cocoa

Healthy Homemade Hot Cocoa

I used to drink Swiss Miss hot cocoa all. the. time.  I am so ashamed.  Who knows how much white sugar and dangerous hydrogenated oil I drank from that.  I remember I used to buy the hot cocoa envelopes in the summer, just so I could snack on those dehydrated mini marshmallows.  Are you laughing at me?  Because I’m kind of laughing at myself right now.

Healthy Homemade Hot Cocoa

So if you are like me, and love hot chocolate (and anything else chocolate, for that matter), you will love this easy Healthy Homemade Hot Cocoa!  I really hope that we can all stop buying those unhealthy hot cocoa mixes from the grocery store.  This Hot Cocoa is just as sweet and creamy as Swiss Miss, requires only 3 ingredients, and takes the same amount of time to make as the stuff in the envelope.  It is absolutely delicious on its own, but even more authentic with some homemade marshmallows  😉

Healthy Homemade Hot Cocoa

I am sorry for not sharing this recipe sooner.  I know a lot of you froze your butts off over the last few months.  And maybe some of you are still freezing.  I know I am with New York’s 40 degree weather!  Oh, how I miss Arizona…  but better late than never I suppose.  The main point is that there is finally a Healthy Homemade Hot Cocoa recipe to warm your frozen solid hands 😉

  1. Mmmmm what a perfect cup of hot cocoa! Those homemade marshmallows don’t hurt either 😉

  2. Such a wonderfully simple and healthy treat. I love this kind of drink for after dinner, or afternoon, or after breakfast, tteehhee. Perfectly done with your beautiful marshmallows Jessica. Love it :p

  3. Looks yummy and pu lease – the only reason to eat Lucky charms cereal was for the marshmallows!!

  4. I make this all the time! I also add a little bit of sea salt and vanilla extract. So good!!

  5. It’s been so wintery here lately, that this sounds like the perfect treat!

  6. In reference to Lucky Charms marshmallows, could you perhaps make cereal bars? Or relative to bars, could you make more protein bars? They are delicious! I would make a vanilla, coffee, banana, coconut, or peppermint/mint chocolate chip version myself, but I lack the skill.

    • Mmmm! vanilla, mint chocolate chip and coconut definitely caught my attention! I have made a few variations myself but never posted the recipes (I tried making Almond Joy (almond, chocolate, coconut) and German Chocolate Cake (pecan, coconut, chocolate) protein bars but was not happy with the results. I’ll try making those flavors and hopefully they will be post-worthy 🙂

  7. If by freezing you mean sitting at an average of -40 degrees Celcius, with the odd windy day getting down to -50! And having the heating go off in town for the whole day (yep, yesterday). I tell ya, the house cools down awfully quick in that temperature, and hovering around the cranking oven with a cup of this almondy-cocoay-goodness sounds awfully good.

  8. This looks amazing! I will for sure be trying this recipe out!

  9. This looks fabulous. I’ve been dreaming of healthy hot cocoa.

  12. I know this is old, but I’ve been trying to do low carb hot cocoa with almond milk and it taste terrible. The oil separates and its very greasy overpowering all the lovely high end cocoa powder and expensive low carb sweeteners. I’ve tried to do half cup whipping cream and water thats too bland and even just a quarter cup almond milk I get the grease. Any suggestions I love hot chocolate and have to follow a diabetic diet.
