Healthy Nutella Hot Chocolate
Nutella is soooo freakin good, I eat it by the spoonful. If only we could drink it. Oh wait, now we can, because I made a Healthy Nutella Hot Chocolate! It’s incredibly rich, sweet, warm and comforting, it tastes like pure sin… you’d never know it’s sugar free, low carb, dairy free and vegan! Oh, and it requires only four ingredients to make!
Smooth, creamy and irresistible — this chocolatey and hazelnutty Nutella Hot Chocolate will brighten up your day.
Healthy Nutella Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- ½ cup Homemade Nutella
- 3 packets Natural Sweetener (stevia, Truvia, etc.)
- ⅛ tsp Xanthan Gum
- 3 cups Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (or milk of choice)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together the Nutella and sweetener.
- Whisk in a splash of the almond milk along with the xanthan gum. Whisk in the remaining almond milk.
- Place the pan over medium-high heat and whisk occasionally until hot. Remove from the heat and pour into serving glasses. Serve with all-natural whipped cream (I used Soyatoo rice whip) and mini dark chocolate chips!
As a comparison, here is the nutrition label for Martha Stewart’s Nutella hot chocolate recipe.
Wow, can you believe Martha’s recipe has 390 calories, 21g of fat, and 37g of sugar in one serving? That’s like 1 tablespoon of oil and 3 tablespoons of sugar. No thanks.
This Healthy Nutella Hot Chocolate recipe is just as rich and tasty as the original, but for less calories, less fat, and none of the sugar.
I think I could drink this every day. Scratch that. I think I will drink this every day 😉
Are you due for a chocolate fix? Wait, what? What kind of question is that? Of course you are! So make this Nutella Hot Chocolate. Super chocolatey, super decadent, super… healthy. Enjoy!

With love and good eats,

I could seriously go for one right now though I might go a little nutzo with the whipped cream at the end (everything is better with whipped cream). How thick is it supposed to be btw? Can I omit the xanthan gum? :O

Aya-
Yes! I went a little nutzo too 😉
The hot chocolate is kind of like typical hot chocolate, it’s actually nice and thick (but not smoothie or milkshake thick). If you omit the xanthan gum it will be pretty thin, kind of like the powdered hot chocolates if they’re made with skim milk or water.
If you want to omit the xanthan gum, maybe just add another tablespoon of the DIY Nutella… because extra (healthy) Nutella never hurt anyone 🙂
