Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the DIY Nutella and a splash of almond milk. While whisking, slowly add in the rest of the almond milk.
  2. In a tiny bowl, whisk together the Truvia and xanthan gum. While whisking, slowly add this into the "Nutella milk" and place the pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Whisk occasionally until it's hot and starts to steam. Remove from the heat and pour into serving glasses.
  4. Serve immediately with all-natural whipped cream (I used Soyatoo rice whip) and mini dark chocolate chips!

Here is a nutrition label comparison between Martha Stewart’s recipe and my healthified recipe:

Wow, can you believe Martha’s recipe has 390 calories, 21g of fat and 37g of sugar in ONE serving?  That’s like 3 teaspoons of oil and 3 tablespoons of sugar.  No thanks.  My recipe is just as rich and tasty for less calories, less fat and none of the sugar.

I think I could drink this every day.

Scratch that.  I think I will drink this every day.

  2. I could seriously go for one right now though I might go a little nutzo with the whipped cream at the end (everything is better with whipped cream). How thick is it supposed to be btw? Can I omit the xanthan gum? :O

Yes! I went a little nutzo too 😉
The hot chocolate is kind of like typical hot chocolate, it’s actually nice and thick (but not smoothie or milkshake thick). If you omit the xanthan gum it will be pretty thin, kind of like the powdered hot chocolates if they’re made with skim milk or water.
If you want to omit the xanthan gum, maybe just add another tablespoon of the DIY Nutella… because extra (healthy) Nutella never hurt anyone 🙂
