It literally takes about 5 minutes of prep at night. And 5 minutes of prep tonight = no breakfast prep in the morning.

Healthy Blueberry Muffin Overnight Dessert Oats
Ingredients
Instructions
- In a bowl, stir together the oats, Truvia and salt.
- Stir in the milk, frozen blueberries and vanilla extract. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- EAT!
In comparison, here is the nutrition label for a Starbucks Blueberry Muffin.
I choose the oatmeal! It’s full of fiber and complex carbohydrates with none of the added sugar. The Starbucks Blueberry Muffin has more than 7 teaspoons of sugar and only 1g of fiber, that’s why the muffin won’t keep you full and you’ll crave another one in about… 10 minutes? Hah.
This oatmeal kept me full for HOURS despite my cheetah metabolism.
This oatmeal is amazing all by itself, but it’s even more delicious with some crumbled walnuts on top for some crunch. Any nut or nut butter works though 🙂
If you want super duper creamy oats with a hit of protein, add ¼ cup of Greek yogurt to the recipe! If you’re vegan, feel free to stir in ~1-2 tablespoons of vegan vanilla protein powder (I like SunWarrior) plus a splash more of milk.
Enjoy!

With love and good eats,

The muffin is a muffin. This recipe is not for muffins. And it is quite high in carbs.
Jurinne-
The “muffin” in the title is just there to tell you that the oatmeal tastes like a blueberry muffin. The recipe is more dessert oats, not muffins. Also, the carbohydrates are complex carbohydrates, so they digest slowly, unlike refined sugar. If you are diabetic, this recipe is probably not for you.

I am assuming it’s yummy heated up too???
Marcia Goodwin-
I haven’t tried heating this up because I live in Arizona and it’s pretty darn hot here… has been all winter! But I’m sure it’ll taste good warm 🙂
I hope you like the recipe!

Lovely recipe! Just out of curiosity – where does the fat come from in your Nutrition Facts for your overnight oats? I thought maybe chia seeds, but I don’t see anything…just wonderin’ thanks! YUM.
Yuri-
Thanks Yuri! The fat is naturally occurring in the oats and almond milk 🙂
1/2 cup of oats has ~ 3.5g fat, the 2/3 cup of almond milk has ~1g fat. The nutrition label maker also rounds up, so the total fat is really ~4.5-5.5g, depending on the brands you use. Hope this helps!

I tried this! It tasted amazing (I added protien powder, chocolate chips, and almonds). I can’t say it tasted like a blueberry muffin, but it satisfied my sugar cravings perfectley.
Siara-
That’s strange… the oats should have absorbed the milk overnight! Maybe my blueberries didn’t have as much moisture as yours? If you try the recipe again, try reducing the milk to 1/2 cup 🙂
-Jess
PS: Great idea with the protein powder, chocolate chips and almonds! This oatmeal is also really good with walnut butter or almond butter stirred in. Yummy!
great! I will try that.
Just tried this recipe today. It was so delicious and filling. It was very easy to make the night before. I don’t like the taste of Truvia, but didn’t notice the taste at all.
This will definitely be a breakfast regular. Thanks for the recipe!!
YAY! I’m so glad you made the recipe and didn’t taste the Truvia! Thanks for letting me know how it turned out — super easy and delicious 😀

I’m not fond of milk only overnight oats, I too find it doesn’t solidify and still seems raw like eating soggy swiss muesli. I always use yogurt with overnight oats, the yogurt breaks down the oats for a softer texture.
So I tried this with a 100g of plain yogurt added (and some protein powder) with the milk and it was a really really good, great dessert for breakfast!
Karla-
I love yogurt in oats too! Thanks so much for making the recipe, I’m glad you liked it! 😀

Love your blog. Bumped into it searching for overnite oats recipes…have some fresh delish Blueberries from Sprouts market…how would this fly using fresh vs frozen berries?
Ellen from Az-
Thank you so much! I’m glad you found my blog! I think both fresh and frozen blueberries would work here. Frozen blueberries just add more of a blue color throughout the oats compared to fresh blueberries 😀
-Jess
Sounds delicious. Can’t wait to try it
I am looking forward to trying this. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Could you use steel cut oats for this recipe and homemade almond milk
Steel cut oats don’t absorb liquid as well rolled oats, so you would probably need to soak it for 2 nights, or heat it up in the morning. Homemade almond milk would work just fine though! 😀

I made overnight oats a couple years ago and didn’t like it at all. Thank you for this recipe as it definitely has changed my mind! Delicious and kept me full all morning. I used organic 1% milk and fresh blueberries. This will be a regular breakfast for me. Thanks again!
Oh good I’m so glad this recipe made you like overnight oats again! I think the first time is always a little weird… cold oats? Everything in your body is telling you THIS OATMEAL SHOULD BE WARM! 😉
Good idea using the fresh bluebs. I need to try that, hopefully they go on sale ASAP! 😀
Best,
-Jess
Are the oats cooked first or used “as is” right from pkg??
The oats are used as is straight from the package. No cooking required! 😀
