Healthy Homemade Fruit Paste
Looking for a nice and healthy all-natural sweetener for your sweet tooth? Something that’ll satisfy your cravings but without the refined white sugar and/or high-fructose corn syrup? Well, you found it! This Healthy Homemade Fruit Paste is perfectly sweet and it’s 100% fruit. HECK YES!
And did I mention it requires only 3 ingredients?
This is a must-make 🙂
If you’ve ever used Date Paste, this Fruit Paste is similar to that. The only difference really is that this Fruit Paste is made of three dried fruits (dates, blueberries and raisins), rather than just one (dates), because quite frankly, I hate the taste of dates by themselves.
I feel like everyone likes dates but I really can’t stand them. If you like them, feel free to use all dates in this recipe. The recipe should work with any dried fruit too — feel free to try dried apricots, figs, prunes, cranberries, cherries, etc.
Whatever combo you choose, adjust the amount of water depending on how dry or moist your fruits are. My dried dates, blueberries, and raisins were pretty dry so I needed to use a little more water than typical Date Paste recipes. If you use apricots, figs or prunes, which are typically moist, you won’t need to use as much water.
Healthy Homemade Fruit Paste
Ingredients
- 8¼ oz Pitted Medjool Dates
- 5¼ oz Dried Unsweetened Blueberries (or more dates)
- 2¼ oz Raisins (or more dates)
- 1¼ cups Boiling Water
Instructions
- In a high-speed blender (I used my Vitamix), add the dried fruits and pour the water on top. Cover with the lid and let the mixture sit for 1 hour to soften.
- Puree the mixture and use the tamper to mix the ingredients together. Increase the speed and blend until completely smooth. Scoop the mixture into jars, seal tightly, and refrigerate to store.
The Fruit Paste will thicken slightly in the fridge. The fruits will continue to absorb the water and after refrigerating overnight, it should look like this:
If your Fruit Paste becomes too thick the next day, you can stir in a tablespoon or two of water, or until it looks like the picture above. If you feel like your Fruit Paste isn’t thick enough, put it back in the blender with a few more dried fruits and blend it up again. This recipe is really flexible. I’m definitely going to make this again using dried apricots for a nice light orange color.
This Healthy Homemade Fruit Paste is delicious used to sweeten recipes (both sweet and savory), and it’s amazing spread on toast instead of jelly.
HINT: It’s crazy delicious with Homemade Peanut Butter too!

that looks amazing!!! i can’t wait to try it
This is so clever! It’s weird, I don’t mind eating whole dates on their own but date “caramel” is a little too weird for me. Maybe I will try this!!
Emily @ Hazelnuts and Bolts-
How funny! I love date caramel but I hate dates 😉
Hope you like the recipe!

This sounds delicious and so versatile for all my holiday baking. 🙂
I like the recipe of making this Healthy Homemade Fruit Paste. Looks yummy! I’m so eager to try this at home.
What do you think would happen if you used some fresh strawberries with the dates and didn’t add any star water?
Ooooh that sounds amazing! I haven’t tried that but I think the water content in the strawberries would help blend the dates and not jam your food processor or blender. And it would make for a flavorful and sweet paste 🙂
Just note that the paste won’t last as long since it contains a fresh fruit and not 100% dried fruits. It’ll maybe last 1-2 weeks in the fridge in a tightly sealed jar.
Best,

I made Date Paste and added freeze dried strawberries and piped out lines of fruit onto my ParaFlex sheets and dehydrated them at 115°F for 24 hours and made delicious homemade red twizzlers!! Turned out fabulous! Nobody could tell there wasn’t any cane sugars in the natural candies! Gluten free, fat free and sugar free! Great for EVERYONE including those with sugar problems!
Oh my god that is GENIUS! PURE GENIUS!! I don’t have a dehydrator but now I’m tempted to get one just to try this 😉
I dont have a dehydrator either, but was dying for a method to make homemade fruit leather without one. I found out online that you can use your oven, set to its lowest setting (usually 170°) and if need be, prop the oven door open a tad bit to let out any moisture. You have to adjust the cook time as dehydrator usually work longer at a lower temp and here you are working it shorter with a higher temp, but my first batch of fruit leather is TO DIE FOR ! And of course its organic and all natural with no added sugars. I never have to buy over priced corn syrup laden fruit roll ups again !
Thank you for posting this easy, healthy and yummy recipe! I used medjool dates, dried figs, dried organic orange & rind slices, cinnamon and a pinch of cloves! I’ve made it twice! I do dry out my own rinds, it’s all organic ingredients…and I found shipping the dry ingredients in Mason jars for Christmas with overnight soaking directions has my ENTIRE family begging for more! My Dad’s jar contained date/blueberry, my sister’s had date/current/golden raisin and my mom, well she added vanilla bean and dried persimmons and ginger. However, I did include all the cinnamon, dates, fruits, dried rinds. Thank you!!! This allowed me to “make” food with my family over the miles 💕
Awwww I’m so glad you liked the recipe!! 🙌
And dang, that’s a genius idea with adding the orange rind with spices, and the vanilla bean and ginger. PURE GENIUS! I can imagine how delicious those were 😍
