Healthy Chocolate Buckwheat Pancakes
These 5-ingredient Healthy Chocolate Buckwheat Pancakes are fluffy and delicious, yet sugar free, high fiber, high protein, gluten free, and vegan!
It was only a matter of time before I added chocolate to these pancakes. Okay, really now, I made these the day after the original version but didn’t want to annoy you by posting two pancake recipes in a row.
But now that I think of it, how could that possibly be annoying?
These Healthy Chocolate Buckwheat Pancakes are 100% healthy, guilt free, filling and nutritious. Incredibly delicious when topped with Homemade Chocolate Almond Butter and fruit!
Healthy Chocolate Buckwheat Pancakes
Ingredients
- 60g (½ cup) Buckwheat Flour
- 10g (2 tbs) Unsweetened Natural Cocoa Powder
- ½ tsp Double-Acting Baking Powder
- ⅛ tsp Salt
- 4 packets Natural Sweetener (stevia, Truvia, etc.)
- ⅔ cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
Instructions
- Spray a nonstick pancake griddle with cooking spray and place over low heat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the buckwheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt and truvia.
- Add the almond milk and whisk until clumps are gone.
- Raise the stove's temperature setting to medium/medium-high and once hot enough, scoop a spoonful of batter onto the pan. Cook for 2-4 minutes, or until bubbles stop popping on the pancake surface and when the edges and most of the surface looks dry. Flip and cook for an additional 2-4 minutes.
- Do this with the rest of the batter, then serve with maple syrup, Chocolate Almond Butter, fruit, and/or chocolate chips!
INSAAAAANE! See that entire stack of delicious pancakes below? Imagine that (plus two more that I ate while cooking, hehe) right in front of you for only 260 calories, 16g of fiber and 10g of protein… awesome right? Super Healthy Chocolate Buckwheat Pancakes without any processed flour, butter or sugar!
Instead of the usual maple syrup, I topped my pancakes with Homemade Chocolate Almond Butter. I was too excited to eat the pancakes that I didn’t bother warming the nut butter beforehand 😉
That’s some chocolate bliss right there.

I’m a big fan of spreading nut butters on pancakes instead of syrup and butter. And I want to faceplant into that stack of pancakes topped with your chocolate almond butter mmmmmm
Oh man these sound good! Buckwheat pancakes are my favorite 🙂 Do you think that any kind of milk would do? I can drink rice milk, but not almond milk…. I’d assume so, but just to be safe 🙂
Yup, you can use another “milk” instead of the almond milk! I’ve never used rice milk before, but if it’s thick/creamy like almond milk it will definitely work 🙂
These are so adorable. Weird how I’ve never made regular pancakes, all of the ones I’ve made before are protein pancakes. I don’t have any buckwheat flour though. Meh
Kammie-
I’m sure another flour will work, like brown rice flour 🙂
HOLY DELICIOUSNESS.
Healthy and delicious, love it!
It is funny you post these today. I have been looking for buckwheat flour for months. Where do I find it? Do I have to go online? My grocery store doesn’t carry it in the pancake or flour isle. Thank you for posting this. My husband was beginning to think I was making it up. My Mom used to make us buckwheat pancakes all the time. My Dad loved them!
Hi Kathy! This is where I buy my buckwheat flour:
http://www.iherb.com/Arrowhead-Mills-Organic-Buckwheat-Flour-32-oz-907-g/13081
And if you use this discount code (BAF165) you can get $10 off your order 🙂
I love how your mom used to make buckwheat pancakes, my mom used to make the unhealthy storebought stuff :/
Anyways, I hope your husband gets to try them and loves them!
Weirdly, I’m not a huge fan of pancakes and every time I do eat pancakes, I make sure to put enough nutella on them.
Maybe chocolate pancakes would do the trick for me!
These sound so tasty (especially with the chocolate almond butter!!). There are on my “to make soon” list! And I love your nail polish colour, btw. Very cute 🙂
Would like to make this without the sweetener, like Truvia. Can I just drop it from the recipe, or must I have a substitute?
I would recommend substituting the truvia with another sweetener, otherwise you will have bitter pancakes.

I followed the recipe but it didn’t work. The mixture had a way too much liquid but when it is in, you can’t pour it out …
Did you substitute any of the ingredients? And did you measure everything like stated in the recipe? I’ve made these pancakes numerous times (as well as readers) without any issues.
