I finally made two successful batches of vegan condensed milk!!  I made a promise to you vegans out there that I would some day, and that day just came  :)

Homemade Condensed Milk

This is the first batch, made with my vanilla sugar (absolutely delicious, it’s like pudding and frosting put together)

Homemade Condensed Milk

This is the second batch, made with that beloved coconut sugar (this is like dulce de leche or caramel)

Whichever version you choose to make you will be happy.  This stuff is divine!

Healthy Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk [vegan]

Yield: about 1+1/4 cups

  1. Add the rice milk powder, sweetener and salt to a blender. Blend until it is a fine powder.
  2. Add the almond milk, coconut oil and vanilla to the blender and puree for about 2 minutes, or until thick, creamy and smooth.
  3. If you want it thinner, add 1-2 tbs of almond milk to the blender and adjust it as needed (see notes!)

In terms of using this condensed milk, be careful. If you refrigerate any leftovers it will firm up slightly from the coconut oil, so let it come to room temperature before you use it. I have also used this condensed milk to make Magic Bars and Seven Layer Bars... instead of pouring the condensed milk into the pan over the toppings, you must must MUST stir all the toppings (like pecans, chocolate, coconut) into the condensed milk, otherwise it will just sit on top of the bars like a frosting. Trust me, I did that!

This recipe is: low fat, low sugar, high protein, gluten free, vegan!

Recipe adapted from: Growing Naturals

This recipe might not be the same color as the storebought stuff, but I promise you, it’s just as sweet and creamy.  You’d never know it’s refined sugar free, low fat, high protein, gluten free and vegan!  I could eat this by the spoonful.

i wonder if you could sub the Vanilla Rice Milk Powder for 1/2 cup + 1 T powdered rice bran (or just powdered rice, so rice flour) and 1/2 + 1 T cup brown rice protein powder…?

    what do you think?

  4. dessertswithbenefits: July 24, 2013

Hmmm I’m not sure if that would work… The brown rice flour might add a gritty or bitter texture. I would just try using the brown rice protein powder alone, but start off by adding one scoop at a time to the blender with the milk as it might thicken faster than the rice milk powder.
    Hopefully this works out!

This is great, I’ve been looking for a recipe for vegan condensed milk. I wonder if soy milk powder would work? I kind of hate the taste of it but I would have difficulty finding rice milk powder.

Katy- I’m sure powdered soy milk would work, but if you don’t like the taste then I wouldn’t recommend using it. I get my rice milk powder here:
